Description
I teach all styles of rock, jazz and blues and will accept students at all levels including beginners. I focus on performance, repertoire, improvisation and theory using grids, TAB, and traditional notation. Once the beginning student has established the fundamentals I’ll guide the curriculum towards the style of music in which the student shows the most aptitude and desire to learn. Every lesson is documented with specific instructions geared towards each student’s level of study. I’ve also recorded myself performing the guitar music I teach at slow and actual speeds and the files are readily available as mp3s for students. Also, if the student is an advanced guitarist I can teach them how to transcribe solos and chord progressions note for note, as well as writing and arranging for multiple instruments such as jazz combos, big bands and full orchestra. I also play jazz piano, and my keyboard skills are as advanced as my guitar chops. References are available.
I have a Master’s Degree in Music from San Jose State and have been teaching privately for 30 years. I’ve instructed over 1,500 students at The Musicians Warehouse locations in Evergreen and Almaden, Tony’s Music in Evergreen, and Steven’s Music in Cupertino from 1982-2007. Currently I teach in my home studio located in South San Jose. It’s a quiet and peaceful environment and there are never any distractions that the student may find from taking lessons in a noisy retail music store. Learning to play a musical instrument is a very satisfying and creative experience and if the student is willing to dedicate the time to practice everyday, they can learn to play correctly and obtain positive results quickly especially under the guidance and tutelage of an accomplished guitar instructor such as myself. If you desire to come in for one lesson just to try it out before making a decision I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and introduce you to my skills as a guitar teacher.
